L3 a green?
« on: May 17, 2011, 12:46:53 AM »
We ran L3 for the first time in a while for me this past Saturday.  I had a very hard time getting a stock TJ through there.  He ended up breaking off 1 of his plastic factory steps and put a dent in the driver side window frame.  Now part of the problem was he was driving a stick with not very much tread on tires.  Plus he had a heavy foot.  But that one rocky section has gotten worse.

I wouldn't take it again in a stock jeep without sliders.  I was able to teach him about his jeep, how to work the pedals to not burn up his clutch etc.  As the day went on he began to listen to me.  Maybe do in part to me spotting him through some harder spots.  I came to find out his uncle told him to drive in 2nd gear because it was smoother.  This was true because he kept slipping the clutch.  I could smell it burning and told him he had to stop or was going to loose his clutch.  By the end of Sunday he was much better.

But maybe someone could look at it to see if it should stay green or put a bypass in around those rocks?  Thanks.   :bow2: Had a good time staff!  Keep up the good work!

Is it still washed out pretty bad right after the office?
And which rocky section are you talking about?

I haven't made it up half of that trail, because of a big washout, and trees to close to get around it.
I have to hang a left and follow the bottom where the big puddle is and bypass most of that trail.

Ed Carpenter took me on that trail first thing in the morning on my very first trip up.
It used to be a nice trail to start, to "work out the bugs" as he said.

It was washed out but we got him around that.  The section I am talking about is just past the old office where you are on a slight up hill and then turns down hill to where the wash out is.  I like the trail the way it is now, just hard for a stock jeep.  A green bypass added would do or loose a small tree or so.  I was happy he didn't mind a dent.  He said it was a jeep, adds character.   Thanks Bruce.

I have seen Jeeps stradle that and stay up . Then I have been in a jeep that rode it on two wheels (not me).

I will take a look at it and see what we can do. Thanks.

He is in college but I told him his first mods should be 31" tires and sliders.  When I hear he is ready I will send him your way.
