So the Reading area got around 17" with this latest storm. How bad did the park get hit? If only my junk was still street legal I'd be out finding unplowed roads and parking lots right now.

Oh man, why couldn't I be up there right now? That would be fun wheeling the blacks in that.

Current conditions are - Lock it into 4wd as soon as you turn into the driveway of the park.. lol - I actually had to lock the Blazer in twice just dropping off and picking Missy up at the park office today...
We get that storm Wednesday they are talking about, it's going to be ugly just getting to the office next Sat.

The park has seen worse.
Lynn, post up picks from the winter before the park was opened. Lynn and I could not drive down the pole line from the towers the snow was so deep. We cut lower 3 that year and when the snow melted we had hundreds of 12 inch stumps to cut. Good times!!

We remain open during the winter even with the snowfall. Heck, we've been open in far worse, a couple ice storms come to mind that destroyed part of the trail network. The parking lot will be plowed again after this week's storm passes. Here's a blast from the past. March of 2003, Mark and I trying to get up through the pole line. I remember we cut open Trail 3 in the snow hiking and hauling our chainsaws in sleds. While looking for that picture I came across this one, again from March of 2003. I vaguely remember we had some kind of event and it snowed. All kinds of rigs showed up including this one. Maybe Mark remembers what that was all about. Going through all my snow pics reminded me of how much fun wheeling in the snow can be. If I can get over being sick and Tommy can dig out the Grand Cherokee, I'll be out next weekend myself.

Every time I come up to snow wheel one of two things occur. I get up there, there is plenty of snow to be had and the @#$% truck won't start, or I get up there and all the snow melted and turned into a gigantic sheet of ice.

I thing Gavin won it. That's all I remember though.

Always did love wheel'n in the snow....
Had a blast this last Sat night and as much as I hate the dirty, frozen aftermath.. I'm kind of anxious to see what we get with this next storm. Calling for 12-18" in our area which is only about 25 minutes west of the Park ;O}

we'll hopefully be there this sat. Wheelin in snow is great, ice not so great. We slid down off the ledge at the top of CV in the ice in a CJ-5. Shackles into the ground and end over end it went...

The park is in the area that got 12 to 18 inches from this storm. Add that to the foot from the weekend.
Past experience with storms tells us that the wide open areas will have drifting. The wooded sections not as much.
We plan on being open Saturday and Sunday. As soon as I get a thumbs-up that the parking lot has been plowed I will let everyone know.
I also can say from experience that breaking trail in deep snow can be one of the most exhilirating off-road challenges. It's kinda like playing in mud and deep water without all the messy aftermath.

MARR will be there Sat and Sun with several vehicles for our Valentines run. We may park at Camp Comfort and drive the jeeps up, not too worried about the parking lot.
