Adam Bates is the guy that should get the credit for the "Capture the Cone" idea. It was started in 2007 at the first "Drop the Hammer Competition" in Torrington Connecticut, there was an article on it in Low Range magazine.

Better have the recover crews on their toes for this event.

Seems to me, since this is a timed event, and the goal is to hit as many cones as possible in the allotted time, having a spotter on the course would be a MAJOR safety concern. In my own opinion, any "spotting" should take place from a "safe distance" like, outside the course, in addition, the course must be fully contained with concrete "K rails". Time would have to be stopped in the event of a rollover to allow for recovery, and, if the competitor decides to continue after the recovery, the clock is restarted. Safety for all involved, participants, spectators, and volunteers is of the utmost importance if we are to continue to enjoy these type of events in the future. The spectators will also have to be in a safety zone of sorts as well. If you've ever seen a "monster truck" show, you'll note the first several rows are left empty, and they use large dumpsters covered with banners, as a cushion between the arena and the spectators. I may e thinking too much, and complicating things, but the last thing ANYBODY wants, is for someone to get hurt.

Team 027 is in for Class 2.

I don't see how the safety concerns are any different from a typical course. A regular course is a timed event, in which the goal is to complete as many gates as possible. Rollovers often occur.  Spotters have to maintain a safe distance/position to avoid being injured by the vehicle. Safety for all involved, particularly spectators, is of the utmost importance.

Thanks for the recognition Clayton, I just thought it would be much more fun to try to run over the cones than go around them!

I really don't see how its any different than a regular course as far as danger, there are just more options for the lines that you can use to get where you need to go. At the last comp that we did we allowed tipped vehicles to be recovered and time was stopped, It dose not have to be done this way but it makes people more aped to try something where they might flip.

I think its a cool idea, really up to the driver as far as how aggressive they want to get.  I know Team #242 is in for Class 2.  It's for a good cause, what better reason.

Just a couple questions.

Are you allowed a spotter?

I'm assuming if more than one person hits all the cones the win goes to the fastest time.

Can you have more than one try?

Is this only open to competitors? if not would they need a Rausch Creek membership card.

Can more than one person run the same vehicle, (one vehicle can be run a couple times by different drivers.)

Can we have a passenger most don't get to experience the thrill, obviously with proper passenger equipment DOT helmet and harnesses?

Are there going to be the standard 4 classes or make make simpler classes to get more people involved like 37" and up and 37" non stickies and down. Again safety rules pending.

I know some...

All same classes. Drivers dont have to be comp guys, but rig must pass tech mainly for safety.
Yes on the spotter
You really think Kyle will allow a course that multiple people will hit all the cones???  :hilarious:

Other questions are great questions...I don't know the answer to.

BMJA will be selling raffle tickets all day Saturday and again on Sunday morning before the Memorial Trail Ride.  We are working on getting some nice prizes to raffle off.

Attention fellow competitors
Please pass this event on to your sponsors and inquire if they would be willing to donate an item or two for the raffle table.  We appreciate all the help we can get.
