Sunken Treasure Trys to eat TJ
« on: November 29, 2009, 07:32:08 PM »
Sunken Treasure almost claimed my lifted  TJ on 35's  Saturday.   I had a bad feeling when I was 1/2 across and it was still getting deeper, then the jeep started floating and the engine died :uhoh2:. I jumped out of the drivers seat and hooked a tow rope to my roll cage as  the guys I was wheeling with pulled me backwards out of the water. Thankfully there was no damage, I might not be in such hurry to cross mudholes from now on.

Why not try??  You really never know.  A year or two ago I would have said 5 foot hole could never be done on 35's, but now you can run it all day on 33's.  We need people like this keep us up to date on the changes without us messing up our own stuff.

I say.....thanks for the heads up. Yup, its still deep.  I hope your rig is okay.
Building a rig is like bad sex...... at first you can't wait to get started, then you can't finish soon enough.

i guess thats a good point. ive heard horror stories of an fsj on 39s floating for a bit and then sinking like the titanic in that. between that story and my general distaste for mud, that proly explains my first post    but hey more power to u for bein adventurous, better than u than me.  like rwolf said, hope your rig lived to wheel another day.

I was in a group of two jeeps and three people (one jeep didn't leave the parking lot), all three of us are young bucks pushing the limits. I never went in Sunken Treasure before (nobody told my why we skipped it). I mistakenly thought that all the deep holes had warning signs. The other guy didn't even try because he is running 33's but I assumed that with the long arm lift and 35's that I had a good chance since my rig rules in the rocks. I learned why the experienced offroaders usually avoid water unless they are really extremely lifted.

First time I heard the name, I KNEW I did not want anything to do with it.  But that is because I have a strong dislike for mud all over my poor TJ.  :uhoh2:

If it has a name, it's because it has a history......  Frog Hole, Drain Plug ( R.I.P. ) Milk Shake, Lake Christy Etc. all got a name from claiming a victim(s). Me Included in several of those.  Milk Shake owes me a clutch. Frog Hole, about 2 month's of smells in 2 different vehicle's. 3rd time was enough for me to stick to rock's from now on.  :yim_doh:

the 5ft pit broke my power door locks and locked me in the rig, i had to get in and out all day through the window. the actuators were in the bottom of the doors and they got filled up and took a dump. best part was i didnt realize it until i got over to trail 13.

Here's a picture of  him about to get pulled out. http://picasaweb.google.com/jbeebe884/RC1109#5410030986212127490

I've been to the park about 20 or so times and never have even been down that way until then, I don't mess around with mud. Hey, you were looking good for about the first 1ft  :hahaha:

Got any photos or vid---How much of a lift did you have with 35's-- did you have lockers and I never gone in but pocked around a littel with a stick it seamed very soft so did you sink alot.
